Teddy Gainz and the Horror of Insect Island

9 person team: 3 artists, 2 programmers/Designers , 2 writers and 2 producers. Many of us had to wear many hats and help out in other areas.
DESCRIPTION
Our protagonist is TEDDY GAINZ-- a brown feather chicken with swole human arms, who's terrified of bugs! They had to swim to the island of insects after finding out their mom had been kidnapped for what the bugs call their “Reaper Festival”, but it truly is a festival of absolute horrors for our bug-terrified Teddy. Only YOU can help Teddy overcome their fears, save their mom, save the world, and maybe even make a friend!
This project was created for the Horror Game Jam #2 and then updated extensively afterwards.




My Role
This project is special becuase it carries a lot of "First times". On this project, I designed and programmed game mechanics for the first time. Creating Teddy Gainz was a great experience, but every step of the way was a challenge that needed to be solved. As the main programmer and designer on this project, I touched every aspect of this game. I worked closley with our wonderful artists and writers to bring this whacky idea to life. One challenge I faced during this project was crafting difficulty that would make the game feel challenging but also fair.

Players would run from an enemy and try to avoid moving into the left most zone.

An enemy would swing side to side and it would be up to the player to find a way to dash through a weak point.

The dialogue box would be located at the top of the screen. The character text would be accompanied by a portrait.
